He promised to fight climate change on both a national and global scale. And he promised to commit to environmental justice for communities—many of whom are communities of color—who have long suffered from a toxic legacy of pollution.

We must take this key moment to tell the world that a clean energy future—one focused on protecting workers and environmental justice—is not only achievable, it is also the baseline for protecting our planet and its people for future generations.

Dear President Biden,

I am writing today to support your mission toward a 100 percent clean future by 2050. We need a future that focuses on protecting workers and advancing environmental justice. The costs of global inaction are increasing daily.

The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change issued a stark appraisal of the latest climate science: The United States must lead the global effort to completely reinvent the global economy in order to mitigate the impacts of the climate crisis.

The consequences of inaction are severe and include deadlier and more frequent billion-dollar extreme weather disasters, like hurricanes, heatwaves, and wildfires; greater harm to food and water supplies; major and potentially irreversible loss of ecosystems, such as the world's fragile coral reefs; a higher rate of sea level rise; and irreparable loss or collapse of ice sheets in Antarctica and Greenland.

Every year of continued emissions threatens destruction that can never be undone.

I urge you to maintain your commitment to a 100 percent clean future for the benefit of all.
