Tell the Senate: Invest in a 100% Clean Future

Climate change is a crisis that touches everyone in our society. It threatens to destroy everything we hold dear as we face rising seas, destructive hurricanes, and uncontrollable wildfires.

Above all, it exacerbates systemic economic and racial inequality and simultaneously threatens public health, national security, the safety and well-being of communities, and the strength of the economy.

The cost of climate inaction far outpaces the cost of taking action now. As the United States looks to its leaders to recover from the COVID-19 pandemic, we must demand they use their positions of authority to foster long-term investments that invest in a 100 percent clean future as we build a more just and equitable economy.

Dear Senator,

I am writing to you as your constituent to ask that you prioritize climate action in future economic recovery legislation.

As you and I both know, climate change is a crisis that touches everyone in our society. It exacerbates systemic economic and racial inequality and simultaneously threatens public health, national security, the safety and well-being of communities, and the strength of the economy. Now, as the United States looks to its leaders to recover from the COVID-19 pandemic, I'm trusting that you will use your position of authority to ensure that we take bold action to enact a green economic recovery package. We need long-term, big investments that build the economy back to be more just and equitable and position our country for a successful transition to a clean future.

Prioritizing climate action looks like:

- Investing in environmental justice by reducing pollution in communities disproportionately affected by climate change and toxics
- Advancing conservation, agriculture, and reforestation to protect our most precious natural resources and public lands
- Making large, long-term investments in the power sector to drive pollution reductions
- Undertaking meaningful actions, such as investing in our infrastructure, to mitigate climate change while preparing for its impacts across rural, urban, and tribal areas
- Creating well-paying, union jobs and more opportunities for women and people of color in these clean economies of the future by rebuilding our infrastructure with the investments above.

In our economic recovery, we can begin the process of a just transition to a clean energy economy that works for all of us. I urge you to prioritize climate action in future economic recovery legislation—for the health of our planet and for all of us who inhabit it.
